McKinven and Colville is a trusted building contractor based in Kintyre, delivering quality construction services across Kintyre and Mid-Argyll. Built on generations of craftsmanship, the Company is known for its reliable service, attention to detail and commitment to delivering projects to the highest standard across residential, commercial and public sector works.
1963
McKinven and Colville was established by Kenny McKinven and Roy Colville after completing their apprenticeships with a local joinery company. With limited resources but a shared passion for quality craftsmanship, they set out to build a reputation for reliability and excellence. Despite the challenges of starting a new business, their hard work, dedication and commitment to customer satisfaction earned the trust of local clients and laid the foundations for the company’s future success.
1998
The company continued to expand its reputation across residential, commercial and public sector projects throughout the Kintyre Area. A building division was added to the company, allowing McKinven and Colville to take on a wider range of works and provide clients with a more complete service from joinery through to general construction. This marked an important stage in the company’s growth and helped strengthen its presence across the local building industry.
2002
In 2002, the company moved to its current location in Snipefield Industrial Estate. The new premises provided ready-made offices and a workshop, giving McKinven and Colville the space and facilities needed to support day-to-day operations and sustain the company for the future. This move created a stronger base for the business and allowed it to continue developing its services for clients across the local area.
2009
In 2009, a roofing and electrical division was added to the company through the purchase of retiring sub-contractors. This placed McKinven and Colville in a strong position to handle all trades under one company, allowing projects to be managed more efficiently and giving clients a more complete service from start to finish. The addition of these divisions further strengthened the company’s ability to deliver a broad range of work across the local area.
2026
Today, the company is proudly led by Barry Colville and his son Kyle Colville, representing the next chapter in a family business built on trust, quality, and dedication. With over 60 years of industry experience, they continue to uphold the values that have earned the company its strong reputation while embracing new ideas and innovations for the future. Their hands-on approach and commitment to customer satisfaction ensure that every project benefits from generations of knowledge, expertise, and pride in their work.
The Company regularly undertakes contracts ranging from small reactive works through to projects in excess of £1 million.
Despite undertaking large-scale contracts and major developments, the Company continues to take great pride in delivering smaller-scale repairs, maintenance works, and property upgrades. McKinven and Colville values every project regardless of size and remains committed to maintaining the same high standards, workmanship and attention to detail across all areas of the Company’s trades and services.
